Banish ads forever with Glimmer Blocker! (And add download buttons to YouTube videos.)

Glimmer Blocker is a free add blocker for Mac OS X.  It is my favorite, because it only blocks animated flash ads, and not text-based ads.  Ad-blockers that block text-based ads are BAD, like ad-block plus. (Post on that later.)

Anyway, download it here. Once you have downloaded it, open the disk image: you should see a preference pane labeled “Glimmer Blocker.”  Double-click on it, and System Preferences will open: telling you that Glimmer Blocker needs to be installed before you can use it.  Click OK and continue on.

When you first open Glimmer Blocker, you will see a check box to enable Glimmer Blocker.  Go ahead and make sure its checked.  Now click on the filters tab and you will see a list of things that Glimmer Blocker can do.  Everything is set up the way it should be right now, at least or ad blocking.  But if you want to enable site enhancements, extra addons that enhance some common sites. For example, to add a download button to a YouTube video.

To try it out, click on site enhancements on the small list at the top of the window, then scroll down on the larger list till you see YouTube.com mentioned.  Check the box beside it.

You should now be able to go to youtube.com to try this out. (The download button is after the username of the person who posted the video.)  If this doesn’t work just comment about it: I’ll be happy to answer any questions.
